Statement from Bethany Mann on the Confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the US Supreme Court

I congratulate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on her historic confirmation to the US Supreme Court. Throughout her confirmation hearings, Judge Jackson demonstrated the strength of her qualifications, and the temperament necessary to judge cases that impact Americans at every level of our justice system. A diverse and representative Supreme Court matters when administering justice and equal rights to the poor and rich.
President Joe Biden made good on his promise to put a black woman on the US Supreme Court. Our nation heals when we move forward together and past generations of discrimination and segregation by making sure that every voice and vote has power.
As a working mom, I applaud her candor in discussing the challenges of maintaining a work-life balance while juggling a career and the responsibilities of a family. She maintained her grace during the relatable experience of listening to certain people with fewer qualifications and more clout question her qualifications, integrity, and right to be in the room in the first place. I believe that we need more working moms at all levels of government and that women belong in all places where big decisions are made. Judge Jackson will be a fine Supreme Court Justice, and I look forward to watching her continued work on the bench.
